This well established and regarded course has been presented across the world, most recently to Chevron and to the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. The objective of the course is to educate delegates in the regional controls on petroleum occurrence in West Africa, such that they can then effectively concentrate their own resources in the regions of greatest prospectivity and in their acquired acreage. The course is presented in two parts, the first concentrating on the tectonic, climatic, thermal and paleogeographic development of the region and the second on how these factors control the petroleum systems of individual basins, including recent discoveries. Lectures are interspersed with discussions and exercises. The database on which much of the course is compiled is also provided in digital form.
Geologists and geophysicists or exploration managers that are involved in the assessment of new exploration opportunities, acreage and prospects in the Central or South Atlantic. This is an advanced level course and a basic knowledge of petroleum geology and in particular of petroleum systems is required.
