Move To Digital Prompts Biggest Ever Interest In Aberdeen-Guyana Gateway

Posted by Lesley Eaton

A prominent business event which recently announced a new, all-digital format has generated the largest amount of interest in its history.

Following the success of the first ever online Aberdeen-Houston Gateway in March, Aberdeen-based Granite PR recently announced that the third annual Aberdeen-Guyana Gateway would follow suit, held in cooperation with the British High Commission in Guyana.

The move sparked overwhelming interest from both UK and overseas delegates, with a record 210 people registering to take part in the sessions which ran over two days on August 19th and 20th.

During more than a decade in operation, Granite PR has forged an enviable reputation for delivering top drawer business events which foster connections between the North East and fellow global energy centres.

The inaugural Gateway linked Aberdeen with Houston in March 2013 and, since then, a total of 25 events have been held with Norway, Perth WA, the UAE and now Guyana adding to the annual calendar.

This week's Aberdeen-Guyana Gateway examined opportunities for the Scottish and UK supply chain to gain a foothold in this emerging market which has produced its first crude oil within the past year.  Presentations were delivered by a host of eminent speakers, led by His Excellency Mr Greg Quinn, High Commissioner for The Co-operative Republic of Guyana and Suriname and The Lord Provost of Aberdeen, Barney Crockett.

Commenting on the event, High Commissioner Greg Quinn said: “The burgeoning relationship between Aberdeen and Guyana is testament to the support and assistance Aberdeen can give to Guyana.  But this is a relationship based on partnerships designed to benefit all.  It is a pleasure to support these partnerships and to encourage them going forward.”

Brett Jackson, Founder/MD of Granite PR and creator of the Gateway series added: “The move to digital for our Gateway series has proved that, even although we are not bringing people together in person, we are still able to fulfil our event's principles of facilitating international networking and knowledge sharing in a safe and appropriate way.

“The support this Gateway has received from delegates in a range of locations gives us confidence and optimism as we look ahead to the shape and delivery of future events in our growing portfolio.”

The series continues on September 2nd and 3rd with the seventh annual Aberdeen-Norway Gateway.

The Aberdeen-Guyana Gateway was supported by ABIS Energy UK/Guyana, Askaris Limited, Energy Industries Council, Energy Voice, Georgetown Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Guyana Office for Investment, OES Oilfield Services (UK) Ltd, Scottish Development International, Stronachs.
