Winterisation & Freeze Prevention of Water Pipes Onboard Tanker


Pictured: Below is a 15kW Hazloc AEU1 hazardous location heater with a factory built-in electronic thermostat to provide freeze prevention installed on the Torm Almena vessel.

The explosion proof heater is used onboard oil and chemical tankers where it provides heat to the ballast water treatment system deckhouse installed on the main deck.

All the hazardous area certified equipment inside the deckhouse must be minimum Apparatus Class IIB and Temperature Class T4 due to the cargo's onboard the vessels. The electric heater is used during the winter time where the fresh water and seawater pipes will freeze if the compartment is not heated.

TORM A/S (based in Copenhagen, Denmark) selected Hazloc Heaters to be used on 12 of their current vessels.

Hazloc Heaters for explosive atmospheres are suitable for use in USA, Canada, Russia and Europe with international hazardous area certifications including ATEX, IECEx, EAC Ex and CSA for both gas and dust atmospheres.

 

These explosion proof heaters provide space heating, air warming and freeze protection in hazardous areas (gas or dust atmospheres).

The Hazloc explosion proof heater range consists of the AEU1 and XEU1 series. Hazloc AEU1 is an ATEX & IECEx Certified Explosion Proof Electric Heater suitable for use in Europe, Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus while Hazloc XEU1 is suitable for the USA and Canada as well as Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus.

3kW – 30kW | 230V – 480V (50 or 60 Hertz) T4 

Hazloc AEU1 explosion proof heaters are CE Marked and certified for hazardous area Zones and locations to meet ATEX and IECEx requirements – the heaters have also received the Eurasian Conformity (EAC Ex) Mark certifying them for hazardous area locations to the new Customs Union Technical Regulations.

3 sizes of AEU1 heaters include the ExCaliber high performance liquid-to-air heat-exchanger cores available in twenty-six 230VAC or 400VAC, 50 Hz model choices to meet the specific heat output requirements and sixteen 480 Volt, 60 Hz models to accommodate shipping vessels, offshore rigs or other applications requiring 60 Hz.

The rugged and versatile AEU1 heater incorporates a high quality immersion heater, high performance fan and motor assembly, a sturdy 2 mm (14 GA) steel cabinet with epoxy/polyester powder coating for corrosion resistance, large control enclosure with an extra port for convenient wiring of an external room thermostat, and enclosure O-rings to minimize moisture ingress. Standard safety features include two temperature high limits and a pressure relief device.

AEU1 electric air heater is suitable for ATEX/IECEx/EAC Ex Zone 1 & 2 hazardous areas (Explosive Gas & Dust Atmospheres)  – with 3kW to 30kW high power outputs for the circulation of air flow to large potentially explosive atmosphere areas. Maintaining site efficiency and worker productivity in extreme temperatures and T Class ratings to T4.
