Posted by Owen Rolt

HOUSTON, January 30, 2019 – DecomWorld – part of Reuters Events - today announced a new research session into decommissioning facilities removal. The project explores removal options, rigs-to-reefs and the potential impact of platform repurposing for the energy transition.

The project is run in collaboration with Lloyds Register, and will culminate in the final episode of DecomWorld's 2020 Webinar Series (February 20, 08:00 CST).

It's set to be a packed-out discussion! Those sharing discussion include Jamil Panter-Brick, Executive, Operations Readiness & Assurance, PETRONAS, James Wiseman, Exploration Engineering Manager, Noble Energy, Jacqueline Vaessen, General Manager, NexStep, John Cox, Decommissioning Manager, Worley and Julie Copland, Head of Production Technology, Lloyd's Register

To be covered during the session:

  • Should it stay or should it go? Evaluate the business cases for facilities removal or leaving in situ and debate the cost and environmental implications of contrasting approaches
  • Deep-dive into Rigs to Reef and get updated on both past project success as well as the potential for programs to be rolled out in emerging decommissioning markets
  • Realize the potential of repurposing, understand the potential for alternative platform use and debate the role of decommissioning for the energy transition

“Amidst evolving international regulatory landscapes in the US, UKCS, Brazil and beyond, regulation continues to put pressure on global decommissioning projects. Approaches to facilities removal remain divided between E&P's and regulatory regimes, as attitudes toward platform removal, reuse and repurposing lack coherence. I'm excited to announce this project in collaboration with Lloyds Register and look forward to the  discussion” Owen Rolt, Director – Global Projects, DecomWorld

DecomWorld is now part of Reuters Events, after its parent company FC Business Events was acquired as part of the Reuters news and media division of Thomson-Reuters earlier this month.
