Difference Between 10# and 20# of Seamless Steel Pipe

As a purchaser, when purchasing seamless steel pipes, there are always seamless steel pipes of various types and materials. Among them are 10# and 20# seamless steel pipes. What is the difference between these two types of steel pipes? What are the advantages of each?

The materials of 10# and 20# seamless steel tubes are different and the hardness is different. 10 and 20 represent the level of their carbon content. In GB9948, the carbon content of 10# is 0.07-0.14, and the carbon content of 20# C is 0.17-0.24.If there are no special requirements for seamless steel tubes, 20# seamless steel tubes are used.

The higher the content of C, the higher its hardness and strength, but the lower the toughness and plasticity, the worse the weldability. 10# Hardness is not enough, but the toughness is very good. It is reliable in welding and is not prone to cracking. It is suitable for small diameter pipes, such as oil pipes on automobiles. 20# Hardness is moderate, toughness is also ok, so it is the most widely used, pipe, pipe fittings, machining equipment, etc. can be used.

The delivery status of 10# seamless steel pipe is delivered without heat treatment or heat treatment (annealing, normalizing or high temperature tempering). The delivery of the required heat treatment condition shall be indicated in the contract, and the unspecified shall be delivered without heat treatment.

20# seamless steel pipe is low carbon steel pipe. Carbon steel is generally divided into low carbon steel, medium carbon steel and high carbon steel. Among them, 45# steel is medium carbon steel, lower than 45# is low carbon steel, higher than 45# is high carbon steel. If there are no special requirements for seamless steel tubes, 20# seamless steel tubes are generally used. 20# seamless steel pipe is made of 20# steel, the strength is slightly higher than 15#, rarely quenched, no temper brittleness. Cold deformation plasticity is high, generally for bending, calendering, crimping and hammer arching. The welding performance of arc welding and contact welding is good. The thickness of gas welding is small, and the shape is strict or the shape is complicated. The machinability cold drawn or normalized state is better than the annealed state, and is generally used for manufacturing workpieces with low stress and high toughness requirements.

20G seamless steel pipe is a high pressure boiler tube. In addition to the carbon content, 20G seamless steel tubes and some trace elements are more suitable for use as boiler pressure vessels. In addition, 20G also focuses on assessing its physical properties. Such as bending, impact and tensile properties. 20G seamless steel pipe is a long strip of steel with a hollow section and no seams around it. Steel pipes have a hollow section and are used in large quantities as pipes for transporting fluids, such as oil, natural gas, gas, water and certain solids, Pipes of bulk materials, etc.

Difference: 20# is the steel number of ordinary seamless steel pipe. 20G is the steel grade of high
