LPG Forum Series: LPG Myanmar 2019

LPG consumption in Myanmar is widely estimated at 100,000Mt per annum. This is a very low consumption figure for this country with about 54 million population. Currently the per capita consumption of LPG is less than 2kg per capita. With the government plan to distribute LPG to more than 1 million households in Myanmar, potential for LPG consumption growth is immersed

Demand for LPG in Myanmar given huge boost with announcement to increase electricity tariff rate for households and businesses from 1 July 2019. Low consumption in LPG has always been attributed to the preference of using electricity to cook over LPG due to the subsidy while LPG has often been used as only a secondary source of energy for cooking. With the latest announcement to increase the tariff rate, LPG demand is expected to surge for both household and commercial consumption. Massive infrastructure and investment in LPG is ongoing in Myanmar.
