Matrix training course gains IOSH seal of approval

Posted by Clare Scott

An Aberdeen-based incident investigation specialist has recently secured Institution of Occupational Health & Safety (IOSH) approval for its one-day investigation team leader's toolkit training course.

Matrix Risk Control (Matrix) developed the investigation team leader's course for members of staff who have responsibility for leading investigation teams following a workplace incident. The course provides delegates with an understanding of the processes and practices that underpin the successful initiation, set-up and management of an incident investigation, enabling them to competently lead a team and deliver meaningful outcomes for their organisations.

Approval of the one-day investigation team leader's toolkit training course was gained from IOSH following a comprehensive three-month application process.  This latest certificate is a welcome addition to Matrix's existing IOSH-related credentials; the company's two-day incident investigator's toolkit training course gained IOSH approval last year.  Key Matrix training personnel are also IOSH-certified, which allows them to teach any IOSH-approved course.

Alan Smith, operations director, Matrix Risk Control said: “Our incident investigation toolkit courses have been carefully created to provide organisations with training that will genuinely improve their investigation capabilities and outcomes.

“Robust incident investigation is key to improving overall health and safety performance – and to mitigating risk in relation to major operational incidents.

“This latest approval from IOSH provides a welcome external endorsement of the quality and relevance of our investigation team leader's toolkit course.  IOSH is well-recognised and highly-respected by both our domestic and overseas clients; this approval therefore generates client confidence at an international level.”

Matrix Risk Control was founded by former senior police investigators in 2008 to help organisations manage many major forms of operational business risk.  The company provides training and specialist support services in the three core areas of incident recording, incident investigation and root cause analysis. Its team of 14 supports clients internationally and is headquartered at Aberdeen's Waterloo Quay. For further information go to or telephone + 44 (0) 1224 937497.
