TEG-1000 Tungsten Electrode Grinder

The Tungsten Electrode is one of the most important variables involved in TIG welding. Preparing your Tungsten Electrode correctly will help to improve arc starting, arc stability and weld quality.

Tungsten Electrode Grinders are a convenient, safer and more accurate way than other methods of grinding Tungsten Electrodes. Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT® now manufacture the TEG-1000 Tungsten Electrode Grinder with a diamond wheel, producing smooth, perfect surface finishes that eliminate arc jumping leading to consistent welds.

Ron Sewell, Chairman for HFT® said: “An incorrectly ground Tungsten Electrode tip may drop into the weld pool and create a tungsten inclusion that could lead to a weld cut-out or reject, either way, leading to additional welding costs and lost time. It can also result in a huge reduction in tip life and changes in arc voltage.”

“Even if you have some of the best welding equipment available, without a properly prepared Tungsten Electrode, your weld could always be comprised!”

The use of the TEG-1000 Grinder will give repeatable Tungsten Electrode points every time, enabling consistent arc performance and welding results. Sizes 1.0 to 3.2 mm can be ground as standard, with other sizes catered for on request.

Savings can be achieved because of the increased life of properly ground Tungsten Electrodes. With the special collet accessory, shorter Tungsten Electrodes can be held, significantly increasing the length of life of each Tungsten Electrode before it is discarded.

TIG welding requires Tungsten Electrodes to have perfectly ground and polished tips. HFT®'s TEG-1000 provides these, time after time, to exactly the same size and shape. The diamond wheel grinds the Tungsten Electrodes' longitudinally, preventing arc flicker or wander caused by circumferential lines or ridges found on electrodes, which have been ground incorrectly.

With Tungsten Electrodes ground and polished, mechanised welding can produce identical results every time. With manual welding, the shape of the Tungsten Electrode is just as important. With a correctly shaped tip, the arc can be precisely positioned with none of the preferential arcing experienced when using poorly shaped manually ground tips.

HFT® also manufacture MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes that are designed to address the growing concerns about the radio-toxic thoria that is present in standard red tipped Tungsten Electrodes. MultiStrike® Tungsten Electrodes are non-radiotoxic, non-thoriated, non-carcinogenic. They will also strike 10 times more arcs than red tipped thoriated tungsten, when tested under identical conditions. Eliminate the thoriated dust in the atmosphere by changing to MultiStrike® Tungstens so that when there is tungsten grinding dust, it is not radiotoxic.

Weld Purging Post Weld Heat Treated (PWHT) Pipework

Welding processes can weaken metals by imparting residual stresses into a material, leading to a reduction in corrosion resistance properties. Post Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT) is regularly used to retain the strength of a metal when welding certain materials including high strength stainless steel a ...

Weld Purging: Replace Paper, Foam and other unsuitable Materials with Argweld® Weld Purge Dams

Weld Purging is essential when welding tubes and pipes made of reactive metals such as stainless steels, titanium and zirconium. Usually weld zones are confined with purge dams so that the use of argon purge gas is limited and waiting times are reduced. Homemade dams fabricated from paper, sponge ...

Long Distance Weld Purge Monitoring

Often when welding lengths of tubes and pipework fabrications of 20 metres or more, measuring the purge gas might not always easy. Under these conditions, there is a risk of contamination of the gas exiting the weld zone, leaving the welders uncertain about their welds and welding procedure.  Weld ...
