BP Alligin Oil Development - Comment From Westwood Global Energy Group

22-Oct-2018

In response to today's announcement that BP has been granted approval for a North Sea development which it is hoped will produce 20 million barrels of oil, David Moseley, NW Europe Reports Manager at Westwood Global Energy Group (https://www.westwoodenergy.com ) said:

“The Alligin field, which has just been approved for development, was discovered 23 years ago and lies close to the Schiehallion field West of Shetlands.  To put it in perspective, the 20 million barrels of reserves in Alligin compares to the 360 million barrels of oil equivalent produced from the Schiehallion field to date, and the 445 million barrels remaining in the field.

“Currently, the UK is producing nearly 700 million barrels of oil equivalent per year, so Alligin's reserves are very modest but will extend the life of the Schiehallion facility.”
