L&T’s Power Vertical Secures Orders Worth INR 1,400 cr From NTPC

The power vertical of the Indian multinational conglomerate Larsen & Toubro has reportedly announced to have bagged two contracts worth INR 1,400 crore from the state-owned National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC). As per trusted sources, the power vertical of Larsen & Toubro would set up FGD systems at NTPC's Darlipali Super Thermal Power Project in Odisha and Vindhyachal Thermal Power Station in Madhya Pradesh.

Reportedly, the deployment of FGD systems at the upcoming and existing thermal power projects has been made mandatory by the Indian Government's Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEFCC), to reduce SO2 emissions. Sources familiar with the development claim that the contract grants absolute rights to the company to initiate engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of CT-121TM flue gas desulphurization (FGD) systems.

According to a press release issued by Larsen & Toubro, the power unit of the company would utilize Chiyoda Corporation's Chiyoda Thoroughbred 121TM (CT-121TM) FGD technology. Reportedly, the CT-121TM FGD technology is a unique process developed by Japan's Chiyoda Corporation in which sulfur dioxide is absorbed from the flue gas generated by oil-fired, coal-fired, and other kinds of boilers and is finally removed as gypsum. As per trusted sources, the engineering and construction major has signed a technical license deal with Chiyoda Corporation on a long-term basis.

With over USD 18 billion in revenue, Larsen & Toubro has been engaged in manufacturing, engineering, technology, construction, and financial services domains across more than 30 nations worldwide. Moreover, the constant quest for high-quality of products and a strong consumer-focused approach has enabled Larsen & Toubro to sustain the top spot in major business verticals for nearly eight decades. Reportedly, the power arm of the company has won numerous contracts through various joint ventures in the domestic and international markets to supply components and engineering services.
