Cyber security expert at AFBE-UK Scotland Real Projects seminar

A leading cyber security expert will highlight issues facing the oil and gas industry in the latest of a series of seminars organised by AFBE-UK Scotland.

The Real Projects event is again hosted by social enterprise AFBE-UK Scotland, a not-for-profit organisation that encourages diversity, inclusion and engineering as a career choice among under-represented groups.

Ben Dickinson, a cyber security consultant with global engineering and technology business ABB, will give a talk – The State of Industrial Cyber Security – at Robert Gordon University on Thursday, September 27 (2018).

A former cyber security analyst with the UK Government, Ben's presentation will offer advice to organisations to improve cyber security strategy and infrastructure.

Dr Ollie Folayan, chairman of Aberdeen-based AFBE-UK Scotland, said: “The issue of cyber security is a hot topic at the moment for businesses, including those in the oil and gas industry. Delegates are fortunate to have this opportunity to tap into Ben's expertise. We are looking forward to his presentation.”

The event takes place at Sir Ian Wood Building (N305) from 6.30pm to 8pm. The talk is free but registration is required:

AFBE-UK Scotland is the Scottish division of AFBE-UK, which encourages young people, particularly those of black and minority ethnic (BME) origin, to pursue a career in the engineering sector.

The Scottish group runs around 20 events annually and has helped more than 1,000 pupils, students, graduates and young professionals across its three main programmes – NextGen, Transition and Real Projects.

The organisation is holding its gala dinner and awards night on Wednesday, November 21 (2018) at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Aberdeen Treetops. Oil & Gas UK CEO Deirdre Michie is the keynote speaker at the event.
