An Aberdeen-based energy industry service company has become the first rental business in the UK to obtain vital safety accreditation for important offshore testing equipment.

Pressure Test Solutions Ltd (PTS) has achieved ATEX certification for its fleet of rental test pumps which are a key part of offshore testing programmes.

ATEX is the name commonly given to the two European directives for controlling explosive atmospheres. PTS' comprehensive rental fleet of test pumps are now fully compliant with the directives, and the business has worked with approval bodies for the last 12 months to reach the required standard.

Gary Notman, managing director of PTS, believes the certification will give the company a competitive advantage in the rental market.

He said: “We're very proud to be the first rental company to have achieved ATEX certification for our fleet of test pumps. This will reassure customers that our large portfolio of pumps is suitable for hydrostatic testing both offshore and onshore.

“A significant amount of work has been done over the last year and this accreditation is an important milestone for the growth of the business which has gone from strength to strength over the years.”

Established in 2008, the PTS specialises in rental, sales and calibration of equipment to the energy industry from its base in Denmore Industrial Estate, Bridge of Don.

The company focuses on five key niche specialist areas: Pressure test equipment and instrumentation rental; hazardous area equipment rental; radio communications equipment; flushing units, and the supply of hydraulic and pneumatic products.

Now in its tenth year of business, PTS has steadily grown to become a leading player in the North Sea and international markets by continually investing in equipment, support services and its people.

Mr Notman added: “We continue to invest in the business and to identify new growth areas that give ourselves and our clients a competitive advantage. We also aim to build on the range of products and services we provide to offshore markets around the world.

“The ATEX accredited test pumps complements our existing services and will help to put us in front of a large international market which will be a huge benefit.

“We hold a large amount of rental stock in Aberdeen and because of this we're in a unique position to service companies based in the north-east, and beyond, as no-one else in the local market has the breadth of products we can supply.”
