London, UK, June 13 2018. A team of seven riders from the Energy Industries Council (EIC) have completed a cycle challenge which took them the length of the UK, raising over £10,000 for Cancer Research UK and The Ocean Cleanup.

The 600-mile bike ride, started from the EIC's Aberdeen office on 7 June, stopped in at its Teesside location, and ended at the trade association's London HQ on 12 June, with the team travelling over 130 miles on some days.

The challenge forms part of the EIC's 75th anniversary celebrations, with proceeds from all anniversary events being divided equally between the two charities, selected by EIC staff.

EIC Head of Oil and Gas and Business Development, and one of the riders, Neil Golding said, 'I'm really proud of the EIC team, covering 600 miles in six days is an amazing achievement, especially considering that none of us are experienced cyclists. It's been an incredible experience and while we are all very sore and tired, all the aches and pains are worth it to support two great charities: Cancer Research UK and The Ocean Cleanup.'

The EIC Charity Cycle Ride was sponsored by Sterling Quality Services, world leaders in providing independent inspection, expediting services and quality assurance services.

Lisa Roberts, Managing Director of Sterling Quality Services Ltd, commented, ‘We are so proud to sponsor the EIC Charity Cycle Challenge, and help two very worthwhile causes. Cancer Research is close to everybody's heart at SQS and The Ocean Cleanup develops advanced technologies to rid the world's oceans of plastic. We hope that everybody gets behind this challenge and donates as much as they can, so we can reach the target of £20,000!'

With £10,000 already raised, the trade association is hopeful that it can still reach its ambitious target of £20,000. Donations to help meet this goal and support the two charities can still be made via www.gofundme.com/the-eic-charity-cycle-challenge

EIC staff who took part in the 600-mile Aberdeen to London charity cycle ride were OPEX Analyst Tom Bacon, Senior Energy Analyst Oliver Barnes, Head of Oil and Gas and Business Development Neil Golding, Energy Research Assistant Lara Juergens, Web and E-marketing Coordinator Mark Risley, Overseas Membership Manager Andrew Scutter and Power, Nuclear and Renewables Energy Analyst Richard Vale.
