The Energy Industries Council takes on 600-mile cycle challenge for Cancer Research UK and The Ocean Cleanup Riders will cycle from Aberdeen to London, via Teesside, in just 6 days

A team of six riders from the Energy Industries Council (EIC) are taking on a cycle challenge which will cover the length of the UK in a bid to raise money for Cancer Research UK and The Ocean Cleanup.

The EIC team will be tackling a 600-mile bike ride from their Aberdeen office to their London headquarters, stopping in at the company's Teesside location on the way, between 7 and 12 June 2018.

The trade association decided to attempt the challenge to celebrate its 75th anniversary, and in doing so, they'll be supporting the two charities, which were chosen by the EIC staff.

Neil Golding, Head of Oil and Gas and Business Development and one of the EIC riders, said, ‘With just under a month to go before we start our charity bike ride, our training and preparation has really started to ramp up and while 600 miles in six days is going to be tough, all the aches and pains are worth it to support two great charities like Cancer Research UK and The Ocean Cleanup.'

The EIC is hoping to raise around £10,000 for each charity. Anyone who wants to support these two charities can sponsor the team's fundraising efforts at

Emily Reynolds, Cancer Research UK's Fundraising Executive, said, ‘We are absolutely delighted that the EIC has decided to attempt such a great challenge to raise vital funds for both Cancer Research UK and The Ocean Cleanup. We can't thank the EIC enough for their support and want to wish the team the very best over the six days.'
