Malabo, November 27, 2017 – Equatorial Guinea will host the fifth annual Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) Gas Summit in 2019. Organized every two years, the GECF Gas Summit brings together Heads of State and government officials of the members of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, including Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, the United Arab Emirates and Venezuela. The Summit provides these top-level officials an avenue to discuss trends in the gas market and potential policies for the energy sector and to collaborate.

“Hosting the GECF is a true honor, and I look forward to welcoming the Heads of State of the GECF and my fellow energy ministers to Equatorial Guinea for the fifth annual GECF Gas Summit,” said H.E. Gabriel Mbaga Obiang Lima, the Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons of Equatorial Guinea. “Equatorial Guinea is on the cutting edge of gas monetization, with a strong reputation for dependable production and export of gas from our land-based LNG facility; and the continued development of world-class projects, such as the Fortuna FLNG.”

The 2017 Gas Summit convened last week in Bolivia, where member countries emphasized the power of natural gas as a clean-burning source of energy of the future. Several heads of state and ministers participated in the summit, including H.E. Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, President of Equatorial Guinea and H.E. Nicolás Maduro Moro, President of Venezuela. During the summit, Equatorial Guinea signed a cooperation agreement with the Government of Bolivia that will see both countries collaborating on energy projects and exchanging information with Equatorial Guinea assisting Bolivia on local content legislation and training.
