Arnhem/Berlin, 12 March 2018. The Horizon 2020 project PROMOTioN (PROgress on Meshed HVDC Offsfhore Transmission Networks) will host its mid-term project conference “PROMOTioN – Shaping a meshed HVDC offshore grid for the Northern Seas - First findings on grid concepts, technological innovations and barriers ” on 6 June 2018 in Amsterdam.
The main objective of PROMOTioN is the further development and demonstration of four key technologies: multi-vendor HVDC (high-voltage direct current) grid protection systems, HVDC network control systems, long duration testing of HVDC GIS (gas insulated switchgear) and full power testing of HVDC circuit breakers. Complementary to this, a regulatory and financial framework will be developed for the coordinated planning, construction and operation of integrated offshore infrastructures. A meshed European offshore transmission grid connecting offshore wind farms to shore could provide significant financial, technical and environmental benefits to the European electricity market. Launched in January 2016, PROMOTioN aims to explore and identify these potential benefits.
The mid-term conference will feature
We encourage you to join and discuss with high level speakers from the project consortium, as well as from the European Commission, WindEurope, and other stakeholders about the progress made in the project and the opportunities and barriers of European offshore wind & grid sector.
The conference will be held at Level Eleven Amsterdam in the heart of the city.
Further information on speakers and the agenda will follow by early April.
